Materials:
  • 1 lemon
  • Kosher salt

1. Start by cutting the lemon in half. We'll use one half per side (if you use both sides of your cutting board and are planning on cleaning both sides).

2. Rub down the cutting board with one half of the lemon {pulp down} and set aside for future use.

3. Cover the cutting board with kosher salt and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

4. Finally, we'll use the previous lemon half and rub the salt into the cutting board. If it starts getting dry, squeeze some juice out of the lemon as you scrub.

5. Go ahead and rinse with only water (no soap) and dry. This is a great way to disinfect and spruce up your wooden cutting board.

  1. You don’t even have to use a freshly cut lemon — a mostly squeezed lemon will do here and it is a great way to use one up after a cooking project.

Do your best to clean -this thoroughly- your wooden cutting boards at least once a month.

I am also curious about adding baking soda to the mix which I’ve heard helps to freshen the boards. Has anyone tried this?
